TG - General Robert E. Lee Two Piece Belt Plate

Take a close look at the James Smith Virginia two piece (T-114 & TG-114) and you will see a difference in the wreath pattern.  Lee's belt plate was not cast by Smith. This belt plate has all the same casting features as all the other Richmond belt plates. This is the same type wreath used for the officers CS two piece that was cast in a Richmond foundry.  The detail on the CS wreath is not as clear as Lee's Virginia.

Mac Mason's original Virginia two piece belt plate. This is the belt plate that made my reproduction business grow into what it is today. T-114 Virginia two piece is the pattern taken from this original in 1968. I give Mac credit. He was the first to let me copy his buckle collection. He had many belt plates that were the first reproductions to be sold. Photo of Mac making music with the handsaw. Mac Mason was a collector, relic hunter and author.

TGCS Artillery - Confederate States Two Piece Artillery Belt Plate

"note the raised circle below the CS on the center disc. The letters CS were pressed into the sand mold and the circle is where the person making the sand mold pressed the letters a little to deep showing the round tool that the CS letters was attached to." They used a plain tongue Artillery two piece to cast this type belt plate.

TGCS Artillery (2) Two Piece Belt Plate (variant)

"note how the S  is not straight. The person making the sand mold pressed the C then the S and each letter was pressed one at a time . It is hard to get the letters straight doing it this way. Most of these Artillery belt plates has the letters a little off center or not straight."
